Saved Completely, Part 1 – Sermon Notes, Announcements & Handout – Pastor Clark Whitten
I. The Promise of the Scriptures.
Roman 8:38-39, John 10:27-30
Romans 8:38-39 (NASB)
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 10:27-30 (NASB)
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given themto Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
II. The Perfection of the Sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:14; Hebrews 7:25-28
Hebrews 10:14 (NASB)
14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
Hebrews 7:25-28 (NASB)
25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever.
III. The Position of the Saints.
2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Corinthians 15:22, 1John 4:17; Ephesians 1:13-14
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
1 Corinthians 15:22 (NASB)
22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
1 John 4:17 (NASB)
17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.
Ephesians 1:13-14 (NASB)
13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge ofour inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.
IV. The Present Tense of Salvation.
John 5:24; John 11;25-26
John 5:24 (NASB)
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
John 11:25-26 (NASB)
25 Jesus said to her, “ I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
V. The Prayer of the Savior.
Hebrews 7:24-25; Hebrews 8:1-2; John 17: 9-11
Hebrews 7:24-25 (NASB)
24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 8:1-2 (NASB)
A Better Ministry
8 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.
John 17:9-11 (NASB)
9 I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; 10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You.Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are.
VI. The Power of Sovereignty.
1Peter 1:3-5
1 Peter 1:3-5 (NASB)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
